I have a boy in our Pioneer outpost that is very interested in engines repair particularly related to tractors, farm equipment and construction equipment. He is also very interested in much of the outdoors activities we do in Royal Rangers.
I wonder if his interest in heavy equipment repair will draw him away from his Royal Rangers activity.
When I see a boy particularly drawn to a specialized area I encourage them to earn a merit in that area. I looked at the requirements for automotive repair merit and it coverd primarily auto repairs and some of the requirements were fundamental to him, not much of a challenge. This boy has already rebuilt an engine.
As for his salvation, I sincerely beleive the boy has already made up his mind to serve Jesus Christ. He could be a future GMA if we could tie his interests in with Royal Ranger activities.
As for me I cannot stand to crawl under a car to fix it even though I have helped my brother pull a couple of transmissions, I cannot mentor this young man through mechanical things. His father is also very big in construction and a man of God.
Does anybody have any creative ideas as to how he can use heavy equipment repair that would relate to atomotive repair or Royal Rangers?
