The leaders manual is misleading .

The Medal of valor is red, and is awarded to those who save a life at the
risk of their own. I don't think there's any extra if you actually get injured
in the process. I suppose they could always use the LMA star it if they
wanted to, but I only hear that once and have no official info on it.

The Medal of Courage is awarded to someone who saves a life with no
risk to their own.

In one place, the leaders manual states that a certificate of courage is awarded
for saving a life with no risk to yours and the medal of courage if you
risk your own. This information is old and will hopefully be removed from
the manual at the next revision.
