Title: Mountain Man Subjects

Dear Friends,

I have been doing some reading this last couple of days and came across something that I found quite interesting.  It was on the Equipment of the Fur Trade Era.

When I was a young buck in FCF and I made my outfit.  I made this belt that was about 3-4 inches wide.  I found that most belts of the period where only 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches wide.  All these years of having this belt that was wrong and really not functional.  The reason for such a small belt with a simple buckle actually logical.  This was when you ride your horse the large belt and buckle in turn made it very uncomfortable.  So I am going to be going back to the drawing board for my next belt.  I also learned something I have been trying to find out for awhile was.  Pardon me ladies.  Was the union suit the only thing the mountain man wore during those time or was there some sort of boxer style or briefs.  I was looking for something more simple during the days and during the night going to the buckskins.  I found that they had britches for underwear.  So now I have to get things together for making them and having them ready for our Ranger Camp this Summer.  Looking forward to seeing Duane and your son with that new shiny GMA.  God Bless
