*Remember one Vet today-
Slim, tall and dark hair and middle eastern complexion..
He's a Royal Ranger, and when he needed some council he
called on his Commander...
*Something was real about the training he had just completed..
At 17 and a Marine with orders to Vietnam in 1968 you must
know it was not an "exercise" but a real shooting war he was
about to be sent too.
FEAR was in his eyes... on his mind...
Mitch Silvers *pounded on the door of the house..
"Cdr.Hank! I'm scared and need to be SURE I'M
RIGHT WITH GOD!"
*Later- Marines from 1st Marines 3rd division went ashore
at a enemy held village at the mouth of the Chu Viet river in Quang tri
provence... as the approched the village over the rice paddies on foot,
a fire fight broke out with green tracers comming from the huts.. and
red tracers flying back from the US Marines...
A young Royal Ranger was there that day in that spot- and though he could
run like the wind at the Ranger track meet, he met his fate that day with
a fatal shot from enemy small arms fire.
*I'm told that the Marines swept the village and turned that ground into a
firebase fortress for several years... I'm also told it was abandoned and
left behind...
PFC Mitchel Silvers should be remembered..
He should be remembered by every Ranger as he is one of us.
His fellow Marines pledge to be "allways faithfull"
...and when the flags fly, and the parades pass, and we rise to salute
the sacrifice Men have made to remain free- *Remember Mitch Silvers.
*quiet-serious,slim and dark
*he was- READY
