Thank you for having the sensitivity to listen to your wife. I was not truly
excepted as a Cmdr. (by other than my husband) until I went to NULC, then I
met a group of men who were not threatened by me they were amused. I have a
great desire to be a integral part of this organization, but at times it can
be difficult with the "no, you can't do thats." Excuse me, yes I can, I am
simply not allowed to do "that" in Royal Rangers.
I understand the possible problems of men and women working together, but the
thing is some of the criteria for being a CMDR is that they are to be a
Christian, have a strong Christian walk, and to be born again...to me that in
and of itself should eliminate most of the problems.
I am not what one would call a "Woman's Libber." I like my doors opened, I
like that my husband is head of our household, I like that when we walk down
the street he walks on the side nearest the street, and when I smoked I
expected my cigarette to be lit for me. However, I think we deserved the
right to vote, manage our own property (if we want to), and equal pay.
When one of us ladies gets called into the RR (whether by God or to rescue
our husbands from lack of Cmdrs. [that's how I started, but not why I
stayed]) we are not coming in to take over, we offer a softer side, you know
we are great for crafts, some of like to go camping, some of us are great at
devotions and all of us love the idea of leading a boy to salvation. It's
not like in school boys against the girls, it's us against the devil and the
battle is for souls to be won for the Lord.
Bathrooms are in the end (pardon the pun) unimportant when compared to the
eternal lives of those precious young men. We are here to be helpmates for
you, for the Lord and for the boys.
Just my .02 and then some,
Kelly Gist, who is halfway through with LTC!
