For me it was a desire to help the Outpost become all it could be... and
ofcourse, being asked by the outpost council.
Most every outpost i've been to has commanders that rarely had any training
or experience. The outposts hedged on being a Wednesday night babysitting
service and were in great need of an overhaul, or just plain commander
training. After the training was done, i'd step back to Pioneers and let
one of the newly trained commanders take the reigns.
In the outposts I attend that were fully "functional", I would start out as
an Outpost commander... where ever the current Senior Commander felt there
was the greatest need. My greatest challenge was in working with
Buckaroos.... i'd focused on Pioneer/TB levels till then... except for the
occasional substitution for a vacationing commander when I was senior
commander.
I'd say the best Senior Commander I ever worked with was Rick Dostal.... he
ran things right! :-)
Parson.
