I talked this over with Scouters this weekend and here's their thinking...
For 90 years a Scout has had a Duty to God, Country and Self...
to keep himself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight!
Scouts has not held back from teaching respect for authority, service to
the country and community or the development of character in young men.
A Scout is REVERENT- He is faithful in his religious duties, and respects
the convictions of others in matters of customs and religion! In the past-
I have heard this "preached" as a compromise of the Gospel...
Evangelist Luis Palu put it very clear to the 15,000 Scouts that GOD is
pleased with Scouting promoting traditional "family" by the call to remain
"morally straight". This means when it comes time to start a family a scout
will marry, and remain faithful to that young lady for life!
The Scouters in my camp backed that thinking up!
Federal funding may go, but so will contributions to the United Way and
their is enough positives in the Scout program that standing for Scout
values as stated in the Oath and Law will remain at all costs!
*Rangers- you watch the moral backbone the Scouts show...
