from Harold . . .
A new idea for me that I have tried for the last couple of years.
DERBY DAZE
A one day event where teams (Adult & child) build, paint and race a
pinewood derby car.
It starts at 8:00 where everybody gets the rules and their car kits.
We do a short devotion to start the day at this time also.
We have a old classic car (we've had a different one each year) that team
pictures are taken in front of,
we have them developed at an one hour photo place, then placed in a
frame to
be passed out at the end.
They have till 12:00 to build and paint the car. We have sanders, drill
presses, band saws, scroll saws,
and various hand tools for them to use. A paint booth is also ready with
a variety of paint. A couple a scales
with weight at another table.
At 12:00, each person on a team then votes for the most creative car and
the best looking car.
Lunch and fellowship from 12:15 till 1:00.
Races start at 1:00 following a short devotion.
We video our races and show them on a big screen, a power point
presentation showed the
results after races, if we had extra time in between races, a video of
car race bloopers was shown.
We then passed out trophies, the pictures and participation ribbons for
everybody and also had various other door prises that various people and
business had donated, such as tools, model cars, posters of race cars,
tickets to events, ect.
Ended with a very short closing about 3:00.
Any questions? contact harold.
