All

Here's a game we tried tonight which went well. You will need:

4 markers for the boys to run to
4 sheets of paper with the name and a drawing of an animal
10 or more slips of paper with the names of animals on
a whistle

Place your 4 markers with one of the names and pictures of animals by each.
Let someone choose an animal from the slips of paper. The boys then mimic
that animal until the whistle blows. Then they run to a marker. Someone who
cannot see the markers says something like, "no-one has cleaned the goldfish
bowl for a month and all the fish die". One of the markers will have a
picture and name of a fish by it and all those boys will be out. When you
are down to less than 4 boys you can remove markers or tell the person
making the announcements which markers are covered. If you wish you could
use environmental reasons for the animals dying.

I would suggest trying it with SA's or Bucks.

Meeting ideas:

Meeting Feature: Knot tying

Recreation: 3-legged race obstacle course. Possibly use the knot
learned in the tying of the legs together for the 3-legged race.

Devotions: Have a rope all tied up into many knots (make sure that it
is not a rope with much memory). Ask the boys if the rope as it is can
be used very well. Point out that all the knots make the rope useless.
Point out that sin in our lives can make our lives useless for serving
God. As you untie the knots in the rope, discuss how God forgives us
for our sins and makes us as if we hadnt even sinned. Show the rope,
now useful because of the removal of the knots, and tell them that if we
ask God to forgive us, he will; and we can be used by Him again. Use
the verse I John 1:9.

This one has been mentioned before, but when it comes to "What game do you
want to play", my boys all shout - STEAL THE BACON!

Divide your players into two groups. They should form 2 lines - each team
facing the other:
xxxxxxxxxxx - team 1

      U -----------the bacon

000000000 - team 2

(important - YOU NEED an even number of players. The odd man out can be
LEADER)

The "bacon" (we use a horseshoe), is placed halfway between the two groups.
Each player on each team is then given a number from 1 to (the total number
of players of that team). Then each team should face off as follows:
1,2,3,4,5,6..... - team 1 -players 1 - 6
|
| U -----------the bacon
|
6,5,4,3,2,1....- team 2 players 6 -1

So player #1 faces player #6 etc...
Now the leader calls out a number. The players with that number quickly run
forward to STEAL THE BACON and run back to their team. If they are tagged by
the opponent there is NO point. If they make it back without being tagged
they score a point. (Be sure the leader calls ALL the numbers at some
time). You can be creative as say, "I'm thinking of the number of points in
the RR emblem". OR how many RED points are in the emblem.

This is the favorite of the Pioneers and Trailblazers in out outpost.
Historically, we have played it that if we call "Steal the Bacon", EVERYONE
goes for it. This has never been a problem, until a couple of weeks ago.
We have grown as an outpost, and when I called "Steal the Bacon", 20 boys
ran for the middle. One boy who had the bacon would up on the bottom of
the pile and when someone lunged for the bacon, this boy hit his head on
the floor. He finished the night feeling fine and went home. All seemed
well until I got a call at 1:00 a.m. that he was at the hospital talking
incoherantly. Apparently he wound up with a mild concussion and was in the
hospital for 2 days. We are going to change the way we play this game.
Bottom line is be careful with the games you choose and the way you play
them.

By the way, another favorite with the boys is "British Bulldog". This is
a strenuous game, but the boys love it. It MUST be played outdoors,
though.

To play, you will need a playing field of some size. We use half of a
middle school football field. There is an "end zone" on each end, and "out
of bounds" on each side. Choose one boy who is "IT". He gets in the
middle and all the other boys line up behind one of the end zones. The boy
in the middle calls "BRITISH BULLDOG", and the other boys must go to the
other end zone without getting tackled. If they are tackled ( or go out of
bounds) they then help the boy(s) in the middle tackle the others. This
continues back and forth until only one boy is left. He is then "IT", and
the game starts over again.

All,
This is a neat game. It's both basketball and dogeball.

Items needed:
2 basket balls
2 doge balls

Form to even teams and have them line up on two sides of the basket ball
court.

Place the basketballs at center court and the doge balls center between the
two
teams. Number off the boys 1,2,3, ect. When "2's" is called, the boys race
to the basketball and dribble to the free throw line. Once there, they
begin to shot baskets.
The first to make a basket MUST dribble the ball back to center court. He
then races to the doge balls and starts the doge ball game. The other Must
make a bakset and return the ball to center court before he can start the
doge ball game.
The first player to hit all the opsipt teams players wins the point.
Team members can caugth the ball and throw it at the thrower. If he is hit
they win a
point.

Later,
