We aren't talking about the official "class" beginning, but what to do before class. I
don't know about your outpost, but we have boys wandering in over a period of about 15
minutes as their parents bring them. When we have something fun and interesting to do
during that time for the early arrivers, that helps keep their interest and keep them
from getting too, umm, energetic in unprofitable areas. Naturally, it has to be
something that people can join at any point, and something that people who arrive at
the "official" starting time don't totally miss. It could be a head start on a craft
or project, a game, a discussion, ropecraft practice, a science demonstration,
listening to live or recorded music, playing with puppets, drawing, etc. A good "while
the boys arrive" activity helps get the meeting off to a good start.
