To the list of people I sent this to. Please read the following. I belong to Citizenlink. Please read it carefully and call your Senator and the numbers that are posted. Brethren, the church needs to wake up. We need a revival. We do not need more bills passed to fund abortion. Rick Baldwin ================================== CITIZENLINK ACTION ALERT -------------------------------------------------------------------- Lawmakers Try to Undo Bad Deal Despite calls from pro-family advocates, House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott on Monday reached a deal with President Clinton that compromises several pro-family concerns. At the heart of the wrangling is the $109 billion funding bill for the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education departments, which as it stands, contains a whopping 12 percent increase over last year's $97 billion funding level -- three times last year's inflation rate. Worse, an as-yet-undetermined part of that massive increase would go to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. And worst of all is the fact that the compromise bill leaves out an amendment sponsored by Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., that would keep school-based clinics from passing out the "morning-after" pill to sexually active teens unless they have parental notice. The anticipated final version of the bill would also mandate that states receiving federal money for school construction abide by restrictive regulations -- regulations that he projects would increase construction costs by up to 30 percent. The bill could be voted on in Congress as early as Thursday. TAKE ACTION: 1. Contact House Speaker Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Lott and express your frustration over the fact that they capitulated on the Labor/HHS bill (the bill number at this point is still H.R. 4577).
