All,
Here's a sample of my devotion for Pioneers this
week.
Raise The Standard
Tonight I'm going to give you a history
lesson.
I want you to close your eyes and picture what I
describe to you.
The date is July 3, 1863
The place Gettsyburg
The time 1:00 pm
A cannon fires from the Peach orachard. Then
another cannon answers.
There is pause as if the earth is breathing. Then
150 CSA cannons open
fire on the Federal line on Cemeteray ridge. The
federals quickly return fire.
The valley fills with smoke and its hard to tell if
the federals have hit anything.
The order comes to slow fire so there will
be ammuntion for the grand attack.
The Southerns tend to aim high so most of the
shells land behind the federal lines.
After a two hour bombardment there is deadly
slience.
A west wind starts to blow lifting the smoke for
the grand attack.
The battle flags wave in breeze. In the trees the
men stand up.
Pickett rides over to Longstreet. "Shall we start
the charge?" he asks.
Longstreet finds he can't answer and only
nods.
The men are order to go 100 yards per minute. At
this rate it will take 16 minutes to cross the feild.
The men march through the woods and soon march
past the saftey of there cannons.
Now open your eyes. The CSA line streches over a mile long. The Federals are impressed but
scared by it.
Soon after the men leave the safety of there cannons the
federals open fire.
The shot and shell leaves gaps in the line. The order to "CLOSE
UP." is given.
They close up.
They march on.
Later,
