I think this is the first time the subject of Mitch Silvers has come up since
the traveling Wall came to Huntsville several weeks ago. My wife and I went
to visit it on the Saturday night. As we walked along and saw all the
flowers and notes that had been left at the wall our eyes were moistened and
a lump appeared in our throats. We had been given a printout for Mitch that
told which panel and line to find his name along with other info about him.
Assuming the information on it to be true it listed his religion as Jewish.
I have always understood that Mitch had only accepted Christ just before he
left for Nam. So when I looked at the printout I was so emotionally moved
that Royal Rangers and a devoted commander was the reason Mitch came to know
Christ just in time. We walked and looked and finally found his name. My
wife and I shed a tear and thought of how hard it must have been on his
parents to give him up. I took that printout home and made copies. I gave
them to all our commanders and told his story. I gave one to our pastor,
telling him how through Rangers Mitch found Christ. The next week pastor
shared with church. I have kept a copy of this printout. It was entitled
"Etched in Stone." To me the story is forever etched in my heart that Royal
Rangers can and do make an eternal difference in the lives of both boys and
men.
