Lewis and Clark made candles and carried a tin for
form'n candles all the way out.. and all the way back!
If yah figger they used clean wax from some hobby supply<G>
you'd be off.. They did carry bee's wax and the hunters
looked for hives.. as the foraged, but mostly they used
Meat drippings of "tallow" and the secondary purpose was
that candles could be eaten in an emergency!
Read up in the Bible about the oil lamps they used made
from a clay bowl somewhat like an ashtray and a string
wick laid in the oil..
FCF Willderness packet had a "lamp" contraption made
out of a brass tube (.308 cartridge) and a tin..
*I was gonna make candles and cook up a mess of vittles,
but I camped next to JFlory 'ole 2 face and his snore'n
kept me up the en-tired night!
WAUGH!
