I just caught this message thread. I fly a Confederate flag and an American
flag on my motorcycle. To me, the flag is indeed a symbol of my heritage. I
have been studying my family history for some time and had several great
uncles that fought for the South from Alabama and from Texas. One of them
paid the ultimate price for his allegiance to his homeland--his life.
I continously tell folks that the American flag flew over slavery from 1776
until 1863 (Emancipation Proclamation), but I have never heard anyone said do
away with that flag! Slavery was only a very minute part of the
picture--state's rights was the main issue. And, people seem to not study
history and realize that the South paid dearly during reconstruction for
their "sins".
There are many things that could be problems for us. Shall we dislike
anything German because of Hitler? Stay away from Chinese food because China
is communistic? We can make anything into something to symbolize hatred.
Lets just stay focused on the good in life.
