90 years..

The Founder Baden Powell was a failure at school and
thought he had shamed his family by his poor acidemics.

He joined the British army and held his post in the Bhor
war by use of resouces at hand and a radical system of
beleveing everyman was a potential leader.

Did the patrol system work for them from day one?

You can find this "story" from any source on Baden Powell.

He wanted a way for British boys to rise in society, and
become productive citizens while discovering a strong moral
code. You may find fault as you like, but the "moral tone"
he set was a Christian ethic. Remember this was also a
period of 1900-1910 pre-ww1 and that predates our AoG
fellowship, and the Azuza Street revival in Los Angeles.

BP tested out his "Scouting theory" by inviteing a number of
British youth to the summmer camp at Gillwell park in England.

*And yes.. the "Patrol system" was there from day one.

Think about how things at work, school and in life realy get done.
You do it by teamwork, and by useing the good will of many to
accomplish a goal. Are we to teach the boys not to make friends,
get along or partner for a task? NO! *Must Commander be the center
of their lives? NO!

Then who do we place before them, beside them and at the point
of their need?

The Patrol!

  I

Look it up amigo.. It's a core value.
Open any Scout handbook of any "era".

Rangers is less than half as old - it takes time to grow -
> and with sweeping changes it will take even longer.

I "read" you..
You think it's hard..
You think you cannot do it.
You think it isn't worth the effort.
You think the boys don't care about it.
You've never seen it and if it was so important..

Why isn't the Patrol System preached by "mr.Big Shot"
as something worth doing!

Knock off that thinking and *Beleve it can be done!

You don't have to wait around for "training" or "permission"..

Just do it!<G>

I think you know in your heart it's right..
