I heard an analogy that I agree with today. The man on the radio said people are having a response to the presidential race that is similar to their response to watching a football game. When the other side commits a foul, we boo. When a member of our own team commits a foul, we hope the official misses it and boo him if he catches it, especially if it wasn't clear from our perspective. One lady listening to the same statement said she couldn't deny it, but had hoped that we had "evolved" beyond that mentality. She used the term "evolve" or the phrase "human evolution" in different forms two or three times. The man was correct. It is what happens when an ethical standard is not thoroughly ingrained in us; when "right" is set by the decision of a fallible human authority--and we're all trying our best to influence him. As for the woman's comment, the world thinks everything that is good has come about because of some unseen force of evolution that forces everything to progress in a positive direction and get better. I wonder where she thinks evil comes from. (I would wonder where she thinks SIN comes from but suspect she doesn't have a working concept of the term.) Integrity is not the product of evolution. Life will not teach us righteousness. Those must come from God.
