It seems to me that there is grave danger in separating politics and religion. Some foolish people might be inclined to think that moral choices made by government officials should not be dictated or affected by the Holy Bible and godly convictions from the Holy Spirit. Some might try to elevate secular ideals, such as equal treatment of all people regardless of "sexual orientation" above the standards of pure sexual conduct promoted by our loving Father in Heaven, who created people male and female.

Love and faithfulness keep the king safe.
His throne is sustained by love. -- Proverbs 20:28

As a roaring lion or a charging bear,
so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.
A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment.
One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days. -- Proverbs 28:15-16

I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. -- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

There is also grave danger in trying to control religion with politics. Just ask the Swedish pastor who is in jail right now for preaching that homosexual sin is wrong, according to Romans 1. Or ask the Catholic priests who died in captivity in the Tower of London at the command of kings who decreed the Church of England to be the new official church. Or ask the founding fathers of the USA, who escaped English kings to come to a "new" continent where they could be free to worship God as they please.

It is wrong for the IRS or any other U. S. Government body to dictate to churches what they can and cannot say in the pulpit-- including endorsements of specific political candidates.

The AG web site does have a good point, though, in pointing out that our focus needs to be on Jesus Christ and the gospel. When I live that gospel, it must necessarily affect my life in many areas outside of the local church building, including in the voting booth.

I am not the AG, but I do endorse George W. Bush. I also pray for him. I pray for world leaders, no matter if I voted for them or not. That means, dear voters, that I pray for you, too.

Still waiting for my Colorado State absentee ballot... in vain.
