Leviticus 23:

39 " 'So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you
have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the LORD for
seven days; the first day is a day of rest, and the eighth day also is a day of
rest. 40 On the first day you are to take choice fruit from the trees, and palm
fronds, leafy branches and poplars, and rejoice before the LORD your God for
seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the LORD for seven days each
year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate
it in the seventh month. 42 Live in booths for seven days: All native-born
Israelites are to live in booths 43 so your descendants will know that I had
the Israelites live in booths when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD
your God.' "

It is a festival of joy and celebration, commemorating the 40 years that the
Israelites lived in the desert in tents.
The whole family leaves home, and for 7 days they live in a tent, in a booth,
without light nor refrigerators nor toilets... they have a good time and unites
the family... and finally they give thanks to God realizing the many good
things God has given them today at home.
It brings to the memory the fact that the People of God was punished to wander
by the desert for 40 years, because of their disobedience, but, in spite of it,
God was faithful, and brought them to the Promised Land.
Living in this fashion is a reminder that our "bricks and mortar" life is only
temporary and that we should not cling too tightly to it. Just as the weather
gets cooler and we feel satisfied and comfortable after the harvest, God tells
us to go and live in shacks for a while.

Woo Hoo! Kinda sounds like Camping!! ;-)
