Desert and palm trees! I always wondered what this desert they wandered through really looked like.
But what could be really helpful for us would be to know how they were able to build up, stay for awhile and then pack up again. Sometimes on short notice. Then their tents were not made of the light-weight material that we use. OK, we as the german Rangers use tent material which is weightwise somewhere between the Israelitestuff and the material of the "untraditional" tents. Compared to the preparations we go through just for a few-days camp-out it looks like we are doing something not as efficient as the Israelites. > Leviticus 23: > > 39 " 'So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after > you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the LORD > for seven days; the first day is a day of rest, and the eighth day also is > a day of rest. 40 On the first day you are to take choice fruit from the > trees, and palm fronds, leafy branches and poplars, and rejoice before the > LORD your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the LORD > for seven days each year.
