Subject: [RR] 2 Hobo bug-bit Rangers.. road trip report

A Number one and GMA#3911 wander'd down to the golden state 'fer to claim
the '16 HobieCat sailboat bought off E-bay.com fer "pocket change"...

*This was a 4 day road trip from Portland,Orygun in a grand 1,000 mile circle.
route assisted by GPS navigation.

We left "Rancho Deluxe" Vancouver,Wash and headed so. on I-5 in a 1990 Isuzu Trooper 2.8 V6 5 speed and got 19.5 MPG over 300 miles to fuel in Medford,Or Top speed 80mph and avrage pace 60.4 mph. Re-fueled we headed over the 4 passes and into the Big Valley of California. Darkness fell and we pulledover to rest in Willows,Calif rest area and
were attacked by "skeeters thick as fleas on a junk yard dog!"

Bug bit and hot from the 100F summer.. we rolled out to roost number 2 down the road
under some fine Eucolyptis trees<G> *Hobo camp zero $$$

Fri. morn.. 7am we woke and grabed a breakfast burrito at Jack'n Box then south to "Saco'"
appointment on the side of the American river arriveing 8:30 am.

*The Hobie cat '16 was in fine dimantled.. faded condition.. but complete with standing rig, newer sail and trapeeze wires.. *Beautiful! (Yellow hulls w/ white sail) $400.00 with original trailer. Wonderful Scouter people, friendly warm.. $360,000 house with
Austin mini cooper project in garage<G>

(Get map www.mapquest.com)

Next leg was uphill on Hyway 50 to South lake Tahoe,California... 6,500 ft elevation
Cool Tahoe blue... Hazzah!

After lunch.. and hardware store side trip ect. we went over to Cave Rock on the Nevada shore to rig.. *Novice Hobie sailor that I am.. I had to sort out the rig and step the mast beside some very exspensive cars. 1 hr. into the "experiance" I saw we were heading
up some high elevation afternoon wind on a very rocky lee shore..

*The better side on my "mind" gave rise to caution.. and I called a hault to a potential
mis-adventure<G> GMA#3911 was disappointed, and I have to admit so was *I..

*However, a sudden thunder storm cleared out thinking..and we secured everything back. then went smimming in... Clean water, Clean air and a vacant..clean sand...beach
Pondersosa pine, manzanita ect. GMA#3911 is a profiecent swimming and BSA
trained lifeguard.. *He admited the elevation and fresh water was tireing, but the waves
reminded him of surf.

*Suddenly! Up on the hyway a loud crash.. and a deadly consiquences!!!

2 be continued~
