Big Smile! --and a chuckle
When there's three or four families (or more) with boys needing leadership and
the next Ranger Basics class is 3 months down the road, guess what you do.
You call your sectional commander or one of the commanders of another church
and tell them you are in urgent need of some help starting up an outpost. Ask
for a consultation, tell them you need a Ranger leader to come to your church
and introduce the ministry to the congregation. If introduced properly, you
should find one or two good men who have always jumped at the chance to paint a
room or build a shed behind the church or some other physical support ministry
and never felt teaching Sunday school was for them but this sounds like a way
to move in that direction. Find another church or sectional leader that is
willing to take your church on as a ministry planting project. Ask them if
your men can attend a couple of their outpost council meetings. Sectional
support is very important. New leaders who know nothing about the ministry need
to be able to get together with other men in the same ministry who will model
the passion for leading boys to Christ.

I can tell you one very important thing—Get as many leaders trained before your
first meeting as you possibly can. Not just an informal get together, the
whole 8 hour Ranger Basics. I’ve had many a Commander tell me he wishes that
he could have started out right instead of going back and trying to fix things.

Also, make sure your Outpost Council has a few men who are really supportive of
your efforts. That way the Sr. Commander can do his job instead of trying to
also do the Outpost council’s jobs.

Whoops—that was two ideasJ

Anyone ever been a part of a start up?

Multitudes of ideas and stories of ‘how to’ welcome and strongly desired…

Rangernet isn’t quite the forum for the responses… so feel free to email
backchannel, or add to my church blog.
