"The value of exports has to keep increasing. This year the export value is expected to reach 44 billion U.S. dollars. We will carry on in order to meet the target," Minister of Trade and Industry Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said when addressing a meeting of the country's Chamber of Commerce here. According to the National Bureau of Statistic, the export value in March went up by 3.67 percent to 4.94 billion dollars, compared with the previous month when the value was 4.765 billion dollars. Meanwhile, during the first three month of the current year, total export value reached 14.099 billion dollars or increased by 38.7 percent from 10.165 billion dollars last year. Panjaitan said that within the next months growth of the export value is expected to reach 3.8 billion dollars per month on average. "The value of Indonesia's export is still lower than expected because our products are not competitive in international market," Panjaitan said. "Indonesia is facing problems in increasing its export value, because many companies have no working capital to activate or maximize its production capacity," he added. He pointed out that to deal with such problems, the government has been making preparations for forming a consortium, which will consist of seven overseas and local banks to provide working capital to selected export-oriented companies.
