Of particular interest are contributions on the arts of the book; documents and chancery practice in the courts of the archipelago; and previously undescribed manuscript collections. Papers should be based on new unpublished research, and contributions from doctoral students are especially encouraged. Conference fees are as follows (for ASEASUK members; non-members add £5 or £12 for the ASEASUK subscription fee): Residential Delegate £225.00 Residential Student £195.00 Accompanying Person £210.00 Non Residential Delegate £135.00 If you would like to present a paper on this panel, please send in your title and abstract (ca.100-200 words) to me by 22 April (note the extended deadline). This year the panel on Malay/Indonesian manuscript studies will probably be smaller than in previous years, and so selection will take into account the criteria outlined above. Some of you have already contacted me to express interest in presenting, and I would now like to receive your titles and abstracts. An announcement of the panel programme will be made in early May 2009. If your paper is accepted for the panel, and if you need financial support, please see the message from the conference organiser, Dr Felicia Hughes-Freeland of Swansea University: "As in previous years, there is a limited amount of funding available to help towards the expenses of UK-based students, or those early in their careers who have not yet obtained a paid position, or for two or three scholars from Southeast Asia, who will be presenting their papers at the conference. If you are interested in applying for such support, you should send a copy of your CV to me and indicate how much funding you wish to apply for and details of your expected costs. Evidence of having approached your home institution at least for partial funding should be given if possible. The funding may take the form of subsidized accommodation at Swansea, in which case ASEASUK will make the booking and pay the costs directly. If the funding is to support costs of travel, this should be the cheapest form available, and receipts may be required. Travel costs would be reimbursed at the conference."
