Padang Pariaman, 24 November 2009 - On November 24th 2009 morning, the
                                groundbreaking of West Sumatra Disaster
                                Response was organized by Habitat for
                                Humanity Indonesia. The groundbreaking
                                ceremony was attended by Deputy of
                                Self-supporting Housing- Indonesia Ministry
                                of Housing, Mr. Kriya Arsjah,Vice Head
                                District of Padang Pariaman Mr. Drs.H Ali
                                Mukhni, Habitat for Humanity Indonesia
                                National Director Mr. Tri Budiardjo and
                                Director of Pundi Amal SCTV Mr. Risanggono.
                                The ceremony was also attended by the local
                                government representative, non profit
                                organiations that operates in West Sumatra
                                and Habitat's main donors: DBS Bank,
                                General Motors , and Rajawali Corporation.
                                Electronic cinema actor and actress, Iqbal
                                Pakula and Donita, were also turned up in
                                this event.

                                Core house model with the size 6 x 3 m
                                (18m2) and a 3m2 bathroom that was showed
                                to the public. The core house design had
                                fulfilled the Indonesian Construction
                                Standard as SNI 03-1726-2002 and the design
                                had been consulted with the Public Works in
                                District level and approved by Head of
                                Padang Pariaman District. The program
                                itself will be implemented gradually and
                                the first stage, 200 first houses will be
                                built at the Subdistrict V Koto Timur until
                                May 2009. The house rebuilding uses
                                community based approach with full
                                participation of the community, disaster
                                response training, including requirements
                                and way to build an earthquake-resilient
                                house.

                                HFH Indonesia National Director, Tri
                                Budiardjo says that the future
                                earthquake-resistant core houses will give
                                privacy, sense of security and sense of
                                coziness compare with a temporary house or
                                emergency tents for earthquake family
                                victims.

                                "Additionally, the house will help those
                                families to minimized depression because
                                they don't have to live together in one
                                place, have to handle the trauma. The house
                                will provide sense of safety where they can
                                keep the rest of their belonging" he said.

                                Habitat for Humanity Indonesia takes part
                                in a rehabilitation and reconstruction
                                program in Padang Pariaman District, West
                                Sumatra, together with SCTV and Pundi Amal
                                as the media partner. Habitat's
                                Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program
                                has targeted 2,500 earthquake-resilient
                                core houses in Padang Pariaman.
