Hey all, New to the list. This is a post I just made to the cloudmark.com support forums. I hope you will forgive the apparent frustration and also possible jumping to conclusions; I read through it after posting, and it *did* seem a bit harsh. I guess I was just frustrated at the lack of "support" in the forums I was seeing. It appears (from reading old threads) that Cloudmark customer support people used to frequent it, but now it's mostly ignorance feeding ignorance, and I can only take so much of that before I start to get frustrated... I guess I should have thought to come here first. ;-)
Anyway, thank you in advance for any advice or insight you can offer on this particular problem. -- -- Nathan Anderson <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <xns:=Nathan Anderson> <http://www.anderson-net.com/> "You can't appreciate Shakespeare until you've read him in the original Klingon." -- General Chang, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I'm not using SpamNet for Windows proper; I'm using the Vipul's Razor scripts (razor-agents v2.22, protocol version 3) on Linux (Slackware 3.5/Perl 5.004_04 -- YES, I *know* it's old and outdated, but I cannot risk messing with the server at the current time for upgrades since I depend too much on it currently; and besides that, it does work: I had to patch Net::DNS as well as a couple Razor scripts before it would run properly on 5.004, but it *does* work). Anyway, I was thrilled to see razor-check getting positive hits from Cloudmark's servers for spam when I fed it legit spam from my mailbox after I set it up, but I've been using it for about two weeks now (since the 23rd, testing it out on my personal e-mail account before deploying it to everyone who has an account on this box), and I've been very disappointed at the performance of SpamNet. I heard of people getting around 75% of their spam weeded out with SpamNet/Razor, but after today's poor batting average (0-for-6!) I decided to do a quick tally of SpamNet's effectiveness in toto thus far, and I found that in my case, I have only averaged about 45% effectiveness! That's right, Razor has caught less than half of the total spam that I have received since I installed it on the mail server. I have kept a file of all the spams I have received since installing SpamNet (they're all in the same file, whether SpamNet caught them or not). I have been very faithful to report all the spam I receive: every single spam in this file I speak of was reported to SpamNet either when I received it or shortly afterward, and I reported the spam whether or not SpamNet already thought it was a spam. Just a few minutes ago, I ran this mailbox through razor-check, and I discovered that many of the *old* spams that I received days ago are still not considered spam by SpamNet. Come on, I can't be the *only* person getting these spams and reporting them! But the most frustrating part is that out of these 179 spam messages that I retained (after reporting them), only 77 are *CURRENTLY* (as of the time of this writing) considered spam by SpamNet. That's pathetic! Something is terribly *wrong* here! Are my reports actually doing any good?!
