Hmm I have been having a similar problem with my torero connections on my web server. As each page opens the db., does its transaction(select,update,etc), and then closes it sometimes it comes up with a cannot connect to database error. If I do a refresh it works fine.
You might have something there as it might be something in the MS updates recently. We have been trying to track it down but have not been successful yet. My solution after a lot of investigating was to add 5 second pauses before each reconnect to a (very) recently disconnected database. For whatever reason this has mostly solved the problem. I have, therefore, assumed that Windows 10 is the culprit and some recent update 6 or 8 weeks ago caused a change in the way Windows releases files. The time taken may vary depending on what else the system is doing thus causing the occasional failure even with that pause. I have only just upgraded to RBase X but my first impression is that the same pause is needed but that's not really a surprise for what seems to be a Windows problem.
