I have developed a couple of complete systems like that, including an automated tool inventory system, with employee i.d. Cards, tool scanning, etc. Doesn't really take that much by way of R:Base interface complexity, the scanner driver handles translation of the scan into a keyboard entry. And if your scanner malfunctions, you can still do a direct entry into the data field with your keyboard.

For example an employee using a card reader to swipe on and out like a time clock app. If so, what hardware did you use and anything else you can suggest? Mainly concerned with getting the needed info from the card (employee ID, name) into R:Base.
