Javier,

Sound like memory issues, perhaps related to the dual display adaptor. I would
run the program without a second display active and see what happens, or better
yet, on a standard desktop/laptop with single display adaptor and see what
happens. If nothing else, eliminating the possibilities.

 Two questions

<[email protected]>: Feb 12 11:50AM -0600

I have a couple of questions, one probably pretty easy and the second not so
much.

First question – when I write code for EEPs I like to make my variables with
set combinations of upper and lower case letter to make them more readable. For
example I would use “vStreetName” which is very easy to read but when I run
Style to find errors it converts it to “vstreetname” which is harder to read. I
know there is a setting somewhere that prevent case changing but I cannot seem
to find it…old age sucks.

Second question – I have forms that after using them for a while square frames
start to show up as shown in the picture below:

I thought there were object hidden behind the panels. To verify, I printed a
list of every component in the form and one at a time identified them to make
sure all were accounted and in fact I found a couple which I deleted and
continued checking until there were no unaccounted or hidden objects.

I have not found a particular pattern or reason why they show up but
eventually, the screen freezes and the application has to be restarted. The
frames seem to show up in the same location and multiply. I have checked the
form and there is nothing at those location even when I have checked behind the
grids, panel and tabs and, as I indicated, all objects in the form are
accounted for. I am stumped. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Javier,

Here you go ...

01. While in R:BASE Editor (RBEDIT), click on
R:Style Setup to customize the way you would like R:Style to behave.
See attached two screenshots of my preferred R:Style settings.

02. Depends on your Operating System and Display Settings.

Hope it helps and/or provide you with some blue's clues ...

Thanks R:azzak,

My tech is working on a Win 7 with Intel Core 7 computer using a version
compiled with the latest X.5. Using 2 monitors 1920x1080, the primary with the
R:Base application and the extended displays the GIS application we use to
locate roads. I will try moving it to a Win 10 computer, but I also get the
same squares on my setup that runs Win 7 with the latest generation Intel Core
7 processor, 16 Gb of Memory, 1TB SSD and two monitors, one a 2560x1080 and the
extended is 1920x 1080.
I will run some additional test over the weekend, but I am not sure what else I
can do that I have not already done.

Javier,

After applying all patches/updates, if you are
still encountering the same oddity, please feel
free to submit an RDCC request with all details
to handle this through our development team.

Once submitted, and reliably replicated, it
should be resolved in a timely manner.

Thank,
I will try to find the problem at my end first so I don’t take valuable time
from your development team and if I am still having the issue I will documented
it and submitted.

Doug Hamilton <[email protected]>: Feb 12 05:35PM -0600

Javier - I use the RSTYLE.VAR, RSTYLE.CAS and RSTYLE.NEW to to the
camel-casing of variables.
It actually works for all non-keywords - component IDS, names of tables,
columns, forms, reports, cursors etc.

In RSTYLE.CAS, I have "standard" variables that I use across all dbs:
vCount, vCustName, vMesage, etc

In RSTYLE.VAR, I have vars unique to a specific db that aren't in
RSTYLE.CAS.

Whenever I run Rstyle (Ctrl-Y), any words not in the CAS or VAR file are
in RSTYLE.NEW.
I keep file explorer open to the db folder, sorted by descending date,
and Alt-Tab to it after each run of Rstyle and edit RSTYLE.NEW if there
are new words in it.
Its helpful to associate the extensions NEW, CAS and VAR with notepad so
the contents of those files display in explorer's preview pane.
I edit RSTYLE.NEW and select the vars I want to keep and cut them, then
save the RSTYLE.NEW file.
This is also a good way to find some typos: FromTable in the NEW file
shows I forgot to hit the space bar. I delete that from the NEW file
and check my code.
Then I edit RSTYLE.VAR and paste the new vars into it at the top -
RStyle will sort them.

As a bonus, I have --Rstyle.VAR_TheDBName at the top so I know which
file I'm working and which db that VAR file belongs to.
The two dashes sort above everything else (except #) so that title line
is always at the top.

There might be a quicker way built into R:Base to edit the RStyle files,
so although my muscle memory is pretty well trained, I'm open to
suggestions.

Hope that helps,
Doug

Sounds good Doug, might have a fiddle with that myself, thanks for the tips
