Problem

On one computer it was no longer possible to open R:BASE help files (.chm).
Regardless of whether it was tried from R:BASE or directly from the Windows
file system.

When opening a help file, it sometimes indicated that the frame was open,
but then on the right side, where the help text is normally displayed, the
area was

empty or sometimes even the help window closed by itself.

Cause

Finally, the problem was found in a font file VGA850.FON stored in a
user-specific local area. It seems that it is corrupted. Each time .chm
files were called, the font was loaded and Windows Help crashed.

It was found that the font file VGA850.FON was installed in two different
locations:

a) normal Windows fonts: C:\Windows\Fonts\

b) user specific area:
C:\user\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts\

Solution/workaround

After renaming the user specific folder b) the problem was solved.

Which application installation was the reason for this "special" font file
could not be determined.

Maybe this information will help with a similar problem with Windows help
system anyway.

Stay tuned and have fun with R:BASE
