Thx but I need to do it before it connects to the database. So it has to be
loaded into a variable and then I can do:

If vfiletxt contains ‘connected’ then
Pause 1 using ‘You cannot run using wifi. Please plug into the matrix’
  Goto endproc
Endif
--connect to database
Connect dbname

Label endproc
Exit

Dan: A quick and dirty scientific wild a** guess, and the absolute long way
around, here (just sayin'):

Courier New Font:

(1)
LAUNCH netsh wlan show interfaces > d:\wiFiCheck.txt (with required formatting)

... which produces:

There is 1 interface on the system:
Name : Wi-Fi
Description : Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265
GUID : 397b2529-0dfe-4991-8a60-30b14707f60c
Physical address : 18:1d:ea:31:b8:84
Interface type : Primary
State : connected
...

(2)
GATEWAY IMPORT TXT +
d:\wiFiCheck.txt +
CREATE TEMP wiFiCheck +
OPTION COLUMN_COUNT 1

...where each text line appears as a separate record

(4)
CLS
SELECT FIELD1 +
INTO vwiFiState INDICATOR vind +
FROM wiFiCheck +
WHERE field1 CONTAINS 'state'

(5)
IF vwiFiState NOT CONTAINS ': connected' THEN
SET VAR vwiFi_flag TEXT = 'hey buddy, get to work'
ELSE
SET VAR vwiFi_flag TEXT = 'wasted your gas today, huh?'
ENDIF
RETURN

So my first hurdle is to find a way to put the contents of a txt file into a
variable. Does anyone know how to do that? I am drawing a blank.

TIA

Hmm interesting. I am going to play with that and see how it works. Gunna
create the text file, have rbase look in the text file for “connected” before
connecting to the database and if exists then close rbase.

Dan/Jan:

I’m no expert, but some time ago I cobbled together a way to detect a network:

This DOS command allows me to get network information:

Netsh WLAN show interfaces

This DOS command sends the output to a file:

Netsh WLAN show interfaces > C:\CTC\TOOLS\RBX5\WifiTestOutput.txt

I put this line in a batch file, run it from RBase, and then import the file
into a temporary table and extract what I need from it.

Hope this guides you a little.

Dan,

I'm interested in this idea as well.

One option I've been wondering about is including ALL the forms, reports and
labels inside the compiled app.
That way the only stuff that should be flying through the ether is the actual
data.

Maybe someone else has an idea.

Does anyone know If there is a way to detect if the active network connection
is wireless?

I want to be able to not allow them to run our compiled rbase app on their
laptops when they are on wireless.

TIA
