I've used nothing but defender for maybe 10 plus years.  That plus NEVER 
using or answering email in any fashion other than plain text and Never 
clicking on a link that I KNOW does not track to some unknown place.  
Emails are the primary vehicle of intrusion, so practicing SAFE EMAIL will 
keep you in a good place.
