Interesting. I was trying to remember whst files you needed to run DOS applications and what were the database structure files and without going through my old records, I could not remember. It has been close to 50 years since I started to use the DOS version and close to 25 years since I last used it.While converting the database files themselves is very doable, the actual code to run the application might be considerably more complicated. The code itself might be protected and not accessible and, even if it is available, the effort to rewrite/modify it for Windows and redo the screens and reports would be a substantial and expensive undertaking. Unless the application has features unique to your business and not otherwise available, I personally would get an off the shelf application such as Quick Books and call it the day. Just my 2 cents.Javier Valencia, PESent from my T-Mobile 4G LTE Device -------- Original message --------From: Scott Stanfield <[email protected]> Date: 4/18/23 5:16 PM (GMT-06:00) To: [email protected] Subject: [RBASE-L] - Flex Accounting I have an older, dos based, R:Base powered accounting program with the source code that came in different modules on diskettes. The name of the accounting package was "Flex Accounting" by Capstone Computing. John with R:base thought the developer was Richard Reed? After doing some cleaning I found these diskettes copied them onto a thumb drive. However a few of the critical diskette's would not "read". There are 2 files on each diskette, one named source.exe and operate.exe. The programmer was from Seattle, Washington I believe and think he may no longer be with us. Has anyone heard of this accounting program or have the files for it? I was thinking about sending them to a data recovery service and am afraid I could further damage my chances of getting the files if I tried to "repair" the diskettes. Anyone that may have a copy like mine would be of great assistance. Thanks in advance. My end goal is to convert to Windows and use for my business.
