Tip of the Day: Database Performance Over Time
Product.......: R:BASE 11
Build.........: 11.0.1.41008 or higher
Section.......: Maintenance
Keywords......: Performance, Database Design, Optimize
Have you checked your database today?
R:BASE users, developers, and database administrators are advised to
continuously revisit their database design, as the performance can decline over
time without optimization checks.
It is expected that a database will grow, and so should the inherent design.
Any time where modules are added to an application, major data shifts have
transpired, column definitions are added/modified, or other significant changes
take place, the table, column, and index definitions should be reviewed to
maintain database integrity.
The optimization checks may also find prior database and application changes
that were overlooked, which are now more prominently in need of attention. The
same checks should also be performed prior to moving an application from
single-user to a multi-user environment.
The following technical documents cover areas for database optimization:
* Indexing Explained
* Optimizing Application Performance
* Understanding Referential Data Integrity in R:BASE
* Multi-User Guide
* Understanding WHILE Loop Optimization
* Optimizing R:BASE Cloud Applications

Performing optimization at scheduled intervals also allows users to keep
current on the latest techniques, commands, and functions available in new
releases.
Very Best R:egards,
Razzak.
