Fellowship of the R> I have experienced a considerable slowdown in the speed of the RELOAD command of late. I am running R:Base 6.5++ for Windows on a Windows 2000 system with a 2 gHz processor and 1 GB of RAM. I have 20+ GB of available disk space and the combined size of my database hovers around 1.2 GB. When I first got my new system a couple of months ago reloads took about 10 minutes, now its taking half an hour or more. Nothing else is running on my system and the only thing that's really different is that I have crossed the 1 GB line in the size of my RB2 file.
If I do an UNLOAD ALL and then RUN the UNLOADEDed files the whole process of recreating the database, reloading the data and recreating the indexes takes about 10 minutes. It's just the RELOAD command that's taking a lot longer now. I thought at first that maybe having a couple of active ODBC connections to some MS-SQL databases may have been the culprit but I have SDETACHed and SDISCONNECTed the tables and connections but RELOAD is still slow. Is there something else I should be looking at? I haven't loaded any new software or changed anything else in my system -- at least not that I can think of. I'm stumped. I have a (possibly) related issue in that my morning routine which consists of running nearly 100 command files has slowed down from about 50 minutes of run time to about 2 hours. I have redesigned the way my programs are run by doing the QUIT TO technique that Razzak recommends but things are still running slower than at first. I just can't figure out what's going on.
