Karen, Also right-click on a blank space on your desktop, choose properties, and then choose the "Settings" tab. See if you can change the "Color quality" setting to a higher setting. When I fiddled with the individual icons and the "run in 256 color setting," this setting got set down to 8 bit, and made everything else ugly.
