Karen I have it working with both File and system DSN, But I know Razzak favours SYSTEM so I stick to that from now on..
My setup is like this on the network drive I have maybe 400 databases called GL (General Ledger) Each database is for different Clients. Since I do not want 400 DSN entrys on each workstation as a compromise each time a user exist a database I make local copy called ODBCGL on the localdrive. That way the last accessed database can always be read from Excel with ODBC. It not perfect but it works.
Be aware that 1.866 for ODBC you need the second 1.866 version if your running windows Gunnar
