Somewhere in the in-line releases there was a change
in policy. Previously, if you had a single-user copy
of the software you could issue multiple connections
to a database from your same workstation. In fact,
you could issue multiple connections from multiple
workstations -- the single user issue was on the honor
system.

In newer releases, if you have a single-user copy of
R:Base, you cannot SET MULTI ON and cannot connect to
a database open by anyone else (whether RBWin, RBDos,
or Oterro).

So, if the copy you have is licensed for single user
use (even if the other users are using a different,
multi-user copy) and the problem occurred in
conjunction with a recent inline patch, then this
might be the issue.
