J.M.,
Yes, you are correct.
The totals are printed first to make sure the file has correct data.
As far as testing the format, the receiving site ususally has
1. A test submission
2. Return error messages, if any
3. A confirmation number that your file has been accepted and processed.

Also, the IRS (do they have an equivalent in France?), will allow you to
send W2 info electronically using the same idea.
You have to apply for a password. After you create your file, the IRS
allows you to download a program called Accuwage. This prog checks your
file for proper placement of data and makes sure that detail totals match
the total in your trailer record. Plus other checks. If it passes, then you
can launch their web site, key in your password and upload your file.
Later (last year later was a couple months later), you can go back to their
web site and using your confirmation number, can tell that they processed it
ok. I guess they don't know how to process it upon receipt. Maybe
eventually they will spend a billion more dollars to get faster computers.
This macro is also available if you want it. You would have to change the
column names to match your program, but you would have the file layout all
set for you.

I launch their web site from rbase (they don't have to remember the url).
prior to that I print out any login or passwords the operator willl need to
login to their sites. Then they have an upload icon, this brings up the
windows dialog box to select your file. dubl click your file and you are
done.

I have seen your macro and I believe I understand what you do.

In Rbase :
- Write a file on your disk
- Lauch IE (or other default WEB browser) and display the login screen of
the site where your need to send your file

In IE :
- User type login/password
- If succeed, the site display a form with an upload icon
- User press the upload icon and send the RBase file.

Is this correct ?

What happen if something is wrong in the file's structure and/or datas
contains ?
How are you informed that your file has been correctly process ?

This seems very clever and convenient for your users. Congratulations.

TIA
