I suspect that there are various similar restrictions in length for other DOS-type commands as well.
For instance, I've had problems with the path length when using the R:Base COPY command to move files. I thought that the limit that I discovered was about 80 characters but it was a while ago and my memory is that much older now. As a rule of thumb, if you're having problems using DOS-type commands I would suggest that you try and remember the original DOS O/S restrictions and apply something less than those to what you're trying to do in R:Base.
