I know I am out bonds,
but the good old days was not Win 98 it was DOS 6.22 the last stable operating environment,
and as far as the exact science I still miss the day when I counted lines and
character to exactly fit my report on the page I wanted, not just approx the
way I want it, but then again I realize dinosaurs are extinct, So from now on I
will say 7.0 on XP are the good old days !

solved!
I found my problem with my labels printing blank. I used
a predefined template, then used File, Page Setup, Paper
Size to change the height of the label to what I needed
(7 inches). Going back to the label band, I then had to
drag the lower detail line down to get it to go down to
7 inches. Because you can't get 7" on one screen, you have
to do it in little increments, hitting the scroll bar in
between each move. Because it isn't an exact science, if
you happen to drag the detail line lower than 7", you get
the message that you can't exceed the report length. From
that point on, no fields print even though the report
length stays what it was before you got the error. If I
grab the lower band and just move it again, either up or
down, then it works.
GOOD NEWS -- I am printing this to an old dot matrix printer,
hoping to use some multi-part 7" forms. I am unable to
set a custom page size in XP (like I would in Win98).
But it prints to my dot matrix perfectly, not doing any
form feeds where I don't want them! So I should be able to
sell this client on using 7.0 instead of 6.5
