I just spent some time working with RBTI Tech Support to try to isolate this
problem. We installed RBG7 numerous times in different ways, until we
found exactly what it was the left the ODBC Adminstrator unable to display
new datasources.

RBTI will work on a new installer, but in the meantime, a workaround is
detailed below.

Here's what we determined:

The Sample Database ConComp, which, if installed, is also set up as an
ODBC data source named RBG7ConComp using the RBG7 driver, is the
culprit. Everything else can be installed without making this problem
appear. (ODBC, Sample bitmaps, Sample icons, Sample Database
RRBYW, Conversion tools, Technical documents, and Borland Database
Engine.)

Do not do the following steps unless you have this problem.

To repair an installation where you ...
a) have installed R:Base 7.0 and
b) cannot add new System DSN names to the ODBC Data Source
Administrator and see those new DSN's appear in the list

... follow these steps:

1) copy the folder containing the ConComp sample database and
application to another hard drive. By default, this installed folder is:

c:\RBTI\RBG7\Samples\Database\ConComp

2) Run Setup.EXE on your R:Base 7.0 Installer CD (or let the CD
"AutoPlay").

3) At the screen labeled "Program Maintenance," push the "Modify" radio
button, then click on the "Next" pushbutton.

4) On the "Custom Setup" dialog screen, click the plus sign [+] to the left of
the icon labeled "Samples"

5) Click the plus sign [+] to the left of the "Databases" icon.

6) Click the triangle on the icon for the "ConComp" database

7) Choose "X This feature will not be available."

8) Click the "Next" pushbutton at the bottom.

9) Click the "Install" button.

10) Click the "Finish" button.

Your ODBC Data Source Administrator panel should now show you new
data sources as they are added.

11) Copy your backup of the folder of the ConComp database and
application, made in step 1, back to the RBTI\RBG7\Samples\Databases\
folder

You can explore the sample database and application, but it will no longer
be available as an ODBC System Data Source named RBG7ConComp
