Think of Windows XP Home as being an update to Windows 98 and you will understand the feature set.

To make this work in XP Pro:

1)       Format the disk to NTFS.

2)       Then set permissions on directories and files as desired. But, remember property inheritance is one of the issues you should think about before doing this – new files in a secure directory will inherit secure settings.

3)       Users should not be able to see your personal information – My Documents\username\etc…\etc…

The depth of security in XP Pro can be very complicated or simple and does require some training or a lot of tinkering to get it just right. For some hints on how to really secure Windows XP see the NSA.gov site for there guidelines and recommendations.

If you need more help just reply.

That is all…

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Off topic - XP users

In XP, you can create different users, with one being an
Administrator, and others being general accounts.

I didn't spend too long looking, but I can't find a way
to have these general user accounts NOT see all the files
on the computer.  I ASSUME that this is possible, that if
a user goes into Explorer that they might not see all the
subdirectories on the computer.  Can anyone tell me how
to do this?
