Michael, I use DOSPrinter 2.5 from www.geocities.com/dosprint
I created a generic printer object in XP, defined on "port" -- actually filename -- c:\dosprinter\dosprint.prn Then DOSPrinter is configured to take as its input the same file, and print to some other printer, e.g. the default printer. It does a nice job with Epson emulation. Every time you "print" to the DOSPRINT printer text file, Dosprinter notices and converts the output through Windows. I think I had to "share" the DOSPrinter printer to get it to work. We didn't actually have much need for it in R:Base by the time we had upgraded everything to XP or 2000, but it did a beautiful job of keeping a DOS-based accounting program running and printing checks for a while.
