John,

Check for erroneous rbengine*.cfg files on the PC. You should only have one
of them, and it should normally be in the \windows folder.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - RBase Crashes on Startup - for some databases

I have a problem with one PC where RBase will either start properly, or
depending on the location of the database, ‘encounters a problem’, which XP
wants to tell Microsoft about. While I can navigate to all but one database
manually and connect successfully, starting these sessions up from the usual
shortcut will not work (one tells me the database is currently unavailable -
but it is). I have tried numerous alternatives, but to no avail. Some of
these databases are on my laptop, where they all work properly. In one case
if I have copied the complete folder to the PC with the problems, changed
the shortcut settings, but the error is still there.

I have given Everyone rights to the folders (although one of these which
works properly has no special shares set up), and tried copying shortcuts
that do work and changing the directories but that doesn’t work either. I
have tried reinstalling RBase as well.

This all used to work, but it seems something has changed somewhere – if
anyone has any suggestions as to what to try next they would be much
appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards,
