That's an interesting alternative, thanks Mike, I'll take that further and see how it pans out.

I like doing these sorts of things because it's not vital to me so it doesn't matter if I can't get it to work quickly and it gives a lot of satisfaction when I get there.

Regards,
Alastair.

You could just store the CODELOCKED password as data in a VarBit column and omit it totally from the Ascii and Codelocked RMD file, then you wouldn't have to change any of your source code, only updating the password as time would dictate.

Many thanks for this document, Razzak. I have only skimmed through it quickly and it looks to contains much of interest.

One thing that did catch my eye - not as a problem with the document - was on the last page where you suggest turning off rules when checking is not needed. This is something that I do in a few situations but it causes me a problem because only the owner can change the rules setting - which is not a bad thing!

I codelock a command file that contains the owner password and then replace to password in the RMD file with ******. This works perfectly well for me as a single user but would be liable to security breaches if I forgot to replace the password in any other situation.

Is there anyway that, for instance, rules could be set off by a special command and then turned back on by R:Base following the next command? eg:

SET RULES OFFTEMP
LOAD ...
-- rules set back on here with no further programming command
EDIT * FROM ...

Clearly, there may be better ways of accomplishing the same thing but, hopefully, that gives an idea of what I am getting at. Or, maybe a few specific commands could have a "Rules On" option that is processed after completion.

Just thinking out loud, again...
Regards,
Alastair.
