Bob,

Speed has not been an issue, obviously it depends on the Computers being used,
communication lines, network traffic, etc. But even on the worse days I have
not seen it take more then 5-10 seconds to start printing from my Miami server
to me in Boston or vice versa. As far as the driver, I am not sure which
computer or if both use the driver. I know when I print I can see the printer
icon on the Terminal Server pop up and then a few seconds later my printer icon
comes on as the job starts. So maybe both ? Either way, just load the same
driver on both machines and you should not have any issues.

Ok, this doesn't sound too difficult (always famous last words).
So what you all are saying is R:Base will be essentially printing from the
server to some remote location, thus bypassing the remote PCs printer drivers?
I guess I can find out the printers and set a default for each client logging
in via prnsetup.
Also, how is the speed issue over the net? One can expect some lag time, but
is it ridiculous?
Thanks,
BC

Bob -

The only other think I would add to Frank's notes is that I've had to be sure
the appropriate print drivers are installed on the server - so if a client has
some unusual printer, make sure there are printer drivers installed.

Bob,

If they are using Windows Terminal Server / Remote Desktop Connection, When
setting up the RDC, goto Options - Local Resources and check off on Local
Devices and Resources - Printers. This will bring a users local printer into
the Terminal Session.. In the terminal server session, open up printers and
faxes and you should see the local printers for the server and then the users
remote printers. You can set any of them as a default and use RBase to print
directly to it.

We have been doing this for years with Win2003 TS and RBase 7.1, 7.5 and now
7.6. You should not need any other program to work with printers. I even have
code that determines the which user is logged in and can hard code the printer
to use if they have more than one on their local machine or a special printer.
If you need any examples let me know.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Remote Printing from Terminal Server

List,
I have an application that resides on a win2003 server. I am going to have a
compiled version for outside clients to run. The IT guy set this up as windows
remote computing. I am assuming this is terminal services, but they are
basically remotely running this directly from the server, not a workstation.
My problem is remote printing of reports. In PCAnywhere, there is a remote
print redirection, but nothing like this in MS software.
Sooooo, I asked this IT guy to make it work, and he showed me some software
from the web that might do the trick; 1. UniPrint 2. ThinPrint RDP engine 3.
Net2Printer RDP

Has anyone used these for this or have a better suggestion I can look into?
Thanks!
