Mike Razzak has provided some very sound samples to test for this. Tomorrow I will post something from the office (in Sweden we have 19:30 almost by now) if it has not been resolved before.
Razzak sample provides for both SCONNECT and SATTACH to check whether the db is connected and table is attached.
