There are websites around that might help. Can't say which ones, but my
sense is that most are make-specific. I had a couple of problems with
my 2000 Durango recently. My shift-linkage to the transfer case broke
while I was trying to put it back into 2WD from 4WD - I was in the
middle of nowhere in North Carolina, comin' off a gravel road, about
500M from Memphis. Fortunately, since 4WD was engaged, I could "go",
but since it's 4WD-Lock, I had to carefully plan my turns when off the
interstate to get gas. I had my mechanics fix that one. Then, possibly
related (based on my reading), I had a bad drive-shaft output speed
sensor. It was intermittent, but from a couple of websites, I found
symptoms that agreed with the codes on my carchip OBD2 computer. That
one I fixed myself.

The point is that these sites had info about which powerplants,
tranny's, rear-ends, etc, went in which year's vehicles, so there are
surely sources for more "superficial" information.

Now, I once owned a '67 Dodge Dart GTS, convertible, red, black
interior, 318ci V8, factory air, one owner (no kiddin'), and this ride
was one sweet piece of Detroit steel. It was a "Miss Jane" class of
vehicle; "Miss Jane" was the character in "The Beverly Hillbillies", who
always drove a Chrysler convertible, back in the day when a ragtop was
really a ragtop. Although startin' to show her years and my own
neglectful ownership, I actually had a buddy in college borrow her for
his first date with a girl who became a serious long-term relationship.
She actually was impressed by the car. Man, a girl with serious
aesthetic sensibilities! They didn't go the distance. But that car was
so AWESOME, MAN, that even my non-car-appreciating wife occasionally
says that she wishes we'd had the money to keep it and do a restoration.

High praise, indeed.

(http://www.timemachinetoys.com/carads/D262.JPG - link to print-media ad
from 1967 with an almost identical Dart. Kinda' silly and patronizing,
"Mad Men", Madison Avenue stuff, trying to catch the youth market.
Still, other than the wheel-covers and the lovely young lady, it's the
spittin' image of my "Doom Machine", as we lovingly called it ... my
wheelcovers were nicer than those, with oval slots rather than those
Cragar/Mickey Thomson lookalike fake-spokes.)

Know this was no help, but couldn't help it ...

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Project - Year Make Model of Cars 1960+

Crazy weekend! But in the middle of it all I/we worked on a little
project
and I am looking to see if anybody else has a database of cars?

Year / Make / Model let's say from about 1960 forward.

So far I had little time and with Bernard help I was able to start
putting a
pretty good list together. Then today I was thinking I might be doing
something, somebody here has already done. It reminds me of the
zip-code
and/or holidays thing. I would rather help out on a list that somebody
else
has and help keep it updated. I have a list from 1960 - 2000 We are
in
the process of loading 2001 to 2009.

Sincerely,
Paul Dewey
