Now I'm trying to build R:Mail into a meeting registration application, but I'm going nowhere fast (or slow).
Dick, After installing R:Mail 2.6 on your workstation, properly configuring R:Mail settings to communicate with the STMP mail server you are using is the key to a successful working environment. To configure R:Mail 2.6 SMTP settings, the process begins by accessing the Windows Control Panel. The Control Panel can be located by clicking on the Windows "Start" button > "Settings" > "Control Panel". A "R:Mail for R:BASE" icon will be visible in the Windows Control Panel. Once you have the R:Mail for R:BASE Configuration panel open, you can set the "SMTP Server Name" field to the SMTP mail server that you are using. This field also accepts an IP address for the destination server. After altering this setting, you will need to press the "Test" button to verify that the settings that you have applied are correct. You will receive one of two messages back, either: "Connection Established!" or "Connection Failed.". http://www.rbase.com/products/rmail/RMail26_Setup_01.png If the connection is established, then you will receive a message from the SMTP server. This message will be displayed in the "Response from SMTP Server" box. If the connection fails, then you will need to obtain the proper setting information from either your network administrator or ISP. In addition, if the SMTP mail server that you are using requires authentication, you must enable the "Server Requires Authentication" check box and enter your Login Name and Password. http://www.rbase.com/products/rmail/RMail26_Setup_02.png After you have made your adjustments, simply click the "OK" button to apply the changes, or "Cancel" to discard the changes. You may also take advantage of R:Mail log file, if you wish. http://www.rbase.com/products/rmail/RMail26_Setup_03.png This setting provides the option to save all message logging to a file (very handy option for debugging). A separate log file is created for every day that R:Mail is used. To enable message logging, select the check box at "Save Log to File". R:Mail will save the log file to the same location of the database files unless you specify a location. The next step is to write a properly organized and well written R:Mail message (.mal) file or template that can be used to send out the entire email with or without attachment(s). Hope that helps! Very Best R:egards, Razzak.
